Sam Houston State University College of Criminal Justice professor Danielle S. Rudes has been awarded the 2024 Excellence in Research Award by the International Corrections and Prison Association (ICPA). The accolade recognizes research that aligns with ICPA’s mission to promote effective and humane correctional policies and procedures.

Mitchel P. Roth is receiving the Frederic Milton Thrasher Award for Superior Accomplishments in Training by the National Gang Crime Research Center (NGCRC). The award recognizes superior scholarship, leadership, accomplishments and service contributions by those who work in public safety issues, such as those posed by gangs.

The Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM) announces a newly awarded $4,990,476, four-year Research and Development Infrastructure (RDI) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This prestigious grant is part of the RDI program’s mission to invest in research infrastructure, faculty expertise and workforce development. SHSU-COM Dean, Thomas Mohr, DO, is the principal investigator (PI), with Vinoth Sittaramane, professor of neuroscience, serving as co-PI and program director.

SHSU-COM hosted its Fall Preceptor Appreciation Dinner at the Fredonia Hotel and Convention Center in Nacogdoches. This event celebrated the contributions of SHSU-COM preceptors in the Piney Woods region, who play an essential role in training and mentoring Bearkat student doctors.

Sam Houston State University’s Dr. Pamela Zelbst has reached many heights in her storied career in business and academics, but the versatile educator can now add Texas State University System’s (TSUS) highest honor to her resume.  

Li-Jen Lester, a professor of computer science and associate dean of the College of Science and Engineering Technology at Sam Houston State University, led a successful, collaborative workshop in Indonesia as part of her participation in the Fulbright Specialist Program. The workshop developed teacher educator competencies in STEM-based learning and was held in partnership with the faculty of mathematics and natural sciences at Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), and its STEM Education Centre.

Admission standards for Sam Houston State University Polytechnic College were among the items approved by the Texas State University System (TSUS) Board of Regents at their regular quarterly meeting Nov. 21-22.

Alisa White, president of SHSU, has been elected chair of the Board of Directors at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

As a Gulf Scholars participant, SHSU will develop a unique educational program with courses, workshops and a major research project in collaboration with Lone Star College (LSC) and other regional organizations.
