Yearlong Clinical Teaching bridges the gap between theory and practice, thoroughly preparing teacher candidates for their first teaching position. With support from mentors, site coordinators, and professors, teacher candidates work alongside a cohort of peers and are continually learning throughout the school year. By the end of the program, students will be classroom ready on day 1 due to having a full year in the classroom with hands on field experience, professional development and support from mentors, professors, and faculty site coordinator.

How Does YCT work?

In the Yearlong Clinical Teaching program, teacher candidates immerse themselves in a Pk-12 classroom starting in the first semester of their senior year. During this semester, candidates spend three days a week in the classroom, while the remaining weekdays are dedicated to university coursework. In the second semester, candidates transition to a full-time schedule, spending all five weekdays in the Pk-12 classroom. SHSU partners with a wide range of school districts, many of which offer paid opportunities for candidates participating in the Yearlong Clinical Teaching program.
