“I chose SHSU because of the weather—it’s similar to Nigeria—and the smaller class sizes, which allow for one-on-one interactions with professors,” said Ayantayo. “That personal connection makes a big difference.”

Her decision to attend SHSU was also greatly influenced by the university’s strong digital forensics program, a standout feature for a student planning to transition seamlessly from a bachelor’s degree to a PhD. Her look into SHSU also revealed a focus on fostering individual student growth, an attribute that sealed the decision.

“When I reached out to professors during the application process, they responded with resources like syllabi and class lists,” she said.

From her experience, Ayantayo believes dedicated faculty who go beyond traditional teaching methods have been key factors in her academic success.

“They’re dedicated to ensuring student success, whether through career advice or personal development support,” she said. “You get to know your professors, and they know you. They encourage you, help with your resume and prepare you for professional success.”

“As program chair for NSBE, I now confidently speak in front of groups and help other students develop professionally,” she said. “ISO was a lifeline when I arrived. They host events every two weeks, which helped me make friends and feel at home.”

For prospective students, Ayantayo has one message: SHSU is the place to be.

“The smaller class sizes and supportive environment make it a great place to adapt to life in the U.S.,” she said. “Take advantage of the scholarships and resources—those have significantly reduced my tuition and allowed me to focus on my studies.”

With her sights set on a PhD in the STEM field, Ayantayo feels ready to rise to greater heights, thanks to the strong foundation SHSU has provided.

“Whether I continue in academia or enter the workforce, I know I’m prepared.”
