    Montgomery County and Walker County

    * WHAT...Very cold wind chills below 20 degrees and minimum values
    around 15 degrees expected.

    * WHERE...A portion of southeast Texas.

    * WHEN...From midnight tonight to noon CST Sunday.

    * IMPACTS...Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged
    exposure.

    Instructions: Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

Campus is operating as normal.

All SHSU community members are automatically enrolled in KatSafe voice and emails. Bearkats can update their personal information using the SamWeb portal and add up to 10 people.

Sign up for Text Message Alerts

SHSU students and employees can sign up for text message alerts with the following steps:

  1. Login to your KatSafe Emergency Contact Information Preferences
  2. Under “Phone”, ensure that “(txt & voice)” is beside your phone number. If it is not, select the “Add” button.
  3. In the pop up, enter your phone number, select “txt & voice” then select the “Add” button

Covid-19

In line with the CDC and the State of Texas Department of Health, SHSU and the Student Health Center are shifting from emergency pandemic response practices to sustainable health practices for COVID-19.

What does this mean? Vaccines, treatments, and testing will remain available. Other tools such as data sources and reporting will change.

  1. The US Government will continue to distribute free COVID-19 vaccines for adults and children. However, the Student Health Center will not have vaccines available.
  2. At-home antigen tests will be available for purchase at the Student Health Center for students only.
  3. PCR rapid testing will be available for students at the Student Health Center for students, and a charge for the test will be applied to student accounts. You can call the SHC for current pricing at 936-294-1805.

If you feel sick:

  1. Isolate/Stay at home
  2. Contact your medical doctor, students may contact the SHC Test and get treatment early
  3. Wear a mask to protect yourself and others, and reduce the risk of spreading illness
