Lillie Padilla

Dr. Lillie Padilla is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Spanish Linguistics from Arizona State University and earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ghana. Her interdisciplinary research explores Afro-Latinx representation, discourse analysis, and ideologies embedded in educational curricula, particularly in the Spanish-speaking world. She has also conducted sociolinguistic studies on Subject Pronoun Expression on the variety of Spanish spoken in Equatorial Guinea. Dr. Padilla’s work not only addresses linguistic and cultural diversity but also advocates for the inclusion of marginalized voices within language education. She has gained recognition for her contributions to scholarship on Afro-Latinx visibility and social justice in world language pedagogy. Her co-authored book Representation, Inclusion and Social Justice in World Language Teaching won Finalist for American Association of Linguistics 2025 Representation, Inclusion and Social Justice in World Language Teaching.
