Teaching the Middle School Band - June 2-5, 2025

Teaching the Middle School Band is a workshop designed to explore all aspects of a successful middle school band program. The presentations are organized in two tracks that focus on beginning pedagogy and developing successful advancing students. Accomplished teachers and musicians will address the significant issues of pedagogy, best practice and creating success for your students. The schedule will allow time for personal interaction with presenters and participants. This is an excellent workshop focused on giving teachers strong pedagogical tools and the resources to use them well. Come join us for an inspirational, educational, informative and practical professional gathering. Recent graduates are welcome!

Workshop participants may purchase a parking pass for the Sam Houston Parking Garage (across the street from the School of Music) for $24. Note: graduate students will purchase a separate pass – see below.

The Art of Teaching Music – June 9-11, 2025
Southern Methodist University - Dallas, Texas
The Art of Teaching Music is a workshop for band directors produced as a joint project of The Center for Music Education at Sam Houston State University and Young Educator Seminars of Southern Methodist University. This comprehensive event brings together teachers, performers, and students to explore teaching at the highest levels. Instrument pedagogy, ensemble rehearsal, advocacy, and musicianship will all be addressed. Participants may select offerings from all tracks. This is an intense, exciting, practical, and inspiring experience for both new and veteran teachers. One of the tracks in The Art of Teaching Music will focus on recent graduates who are beginning a teaching career. The "New Teacher" track is an ideal way to prepare for your first year to teach and to begin a successful career. It is also a terrific place to meet people in the profession and begin to develop a network of mentors and colleagues.
